Gagliano del Capo

Gaëlle Gabillet and Stéphane Villard, during their residence in Gagliano del Capo, had the opportunity to meet local artisans, try their techniques, know the traditions and the symbolism of the apotropaic objects, like the pinecones or the household gods of terracotta.
On display five large terracotta sculptures that extrude impalpable inflatable elements, almost representing the divinities of the elements, in a sequence that recalls religious ceremonies and the sacred statues carried by the worshippers on their shoulders.
An exhibition between matter and spirit, combining air, marble, earth: an alchemical universe that brings the viewer to wonder about the power which is attributed to symbolic objects: prescience or belief?
An unresolved question, but the certainty that in a hard-to-decrypt contemporary world, humans rediscover the ancient need to find a magical foothold to guard against fears or dangers when rationality or technological solutions are not enough to quiet the spirit.
